Rebecca (Becky)'s Story
Life
Hello, this is Rebecca L. Smith, but each of you know me as Becky.
I was born in Atlanta, Georgia where I lived for thirteen years. I have been in the Gainesville, Georgia area for the past thirty years. After graduating with honors from North Hall HS in 1979, I pursued an undergraduate degree in music education (trombone is my primary instrument) from Brenau University in Gainesville, Georgia and graduated Cum Laude in 1983. I completed a MasterÂs Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Phoenix in July, 2004. I have been involved in various community bands, including Northwinds Symphonic Orchestra, Lanier Orchestra, American Patrol Big Band Orchestra, Tuxedo Junction Big Band Orchestra and other local church ensembles. I began my teaching career at Towns County Comprehensive Schools in 1984 where I served as the band director and general music teacher for grades four through twelve for two years, as well as a teacher at the seventh grade level in math and social studies. I moved to the Lumpkin County School System in 1986 for one year where I served as the band director and general music teacher for grades five through twelve. I was the band director, general music teacher and In-School Suspension teacher in the Banks County School System for fourteen ye...Expand for more
ars (1987 until 2001). Currently, I am an employee of the Buford City School System where I am the remedial education teacher for Buford High School. I teach both reading and Pre-Algebra, working primarily with the Ninth-Grade Academy. I serve as the field trip coordinator for all grade levels (the top 46 seniors to NYC in April, the top 45 sophomores to St. Augustine in late April, the top 44 juniors to Washington in mid-April, the top 48 freshmen to Charleston, SC in mid-May, and all freshmen who passed the April progress report go to the Renaissance Festival in Mid-May), and I am on the Technology Committee.
Among honors that I have received are serving as the Ninth District Georgia Music Educators Association Secretary/Treasurer, named to WhoÂs Who Among Professionals and Executives, and I was twice named to WhoÂs Who Among AmericaÂs Teachers. I am a member of the Georgia Association of Educators, the National Educators Association, the Georgia Music Educators Association, Georgia Farm Bureau, and Music Educators National Convention.
I am single and enjoy scuba diving, Caribbean cruises (I am planning for cruise #19 next year), coin and nutcracker collecting, foreign and domestic travel. I have two cats, which have captured my heart and allow me to live in my house.
